PDS ClinPath Toolbar

The ClinPath Toolbar is the gateway to the PDS Consultants Clinical Pathology system. The left to right button arrangement closely follows the natural workflow in a typical ClinPath laboratory and gives the product its unique and intuitive approach to the management of clinical samples. This, coupled with the product's graphical user interface, provides a highly versatile tool which works with the user to maximize sample throughput.

Each ClinPath function, which manages a specific and well-defined phase in a sample's lifetime (from arrival to results delivery), is activated by a single click on its corresponding toolbar button:

Sample Registration:
Enables the introduction of samples to the ClinPath system and makes them available for analysis by associating them with profiles of parameters to be measured. This function displays those samples that have been automatically registered from on-line ClinPath Host systems. It also allows the manual registration of samples deriving from off-line ClinPath clients (e.g. Clinical Trials, Occupational Health, etc.).

Sample Collection Worklist Creation
Creates worklists for the collection of blood and urine samples. These worklists are used subsequently to assign samples to measurement worklists in the same order as they were collected. This minimizes the effects of sample aging.

Flowscheme Template Definition
Defines the pattern of QC and non-QC samples to be applied to a profile of measurement parameters. A Flowscheme Template must exist before a measurement worklist can be created for a selected profile.

Measurement Worklist Creation
Creates a worklist based on a flowscheme template for a selected profile of parameters and populates it with samples designated for measurement from the sample registry. Worklist measurement can be invoked directly after a worklist has been created.

Worklist Measurement
Initiates the measurement of a worklist. This may be by manual data entry or by on-line data capture from an instrument connected to the initiating workstation..

Worklist Acceptance
Allows data in measured worklists to be signed-off (accepted) or marked for rerun (rejected). This is the next required step after worklist measurement and is the point where QC data are limit checked and stored. This phase is automatically invoked by some data collection processes (e.g. microscopy). Formal data edits can be performed at this stage..

Worklist Edit
Allows further formal edits to be performed on a worklist after the worklist has passed the acceptance stage.

Worklist Review & Approval
Approval commits a worklist to the ClinPath archive and collates study-related data for subsequent reporting. At this point, data are automatically released to on-line clients and to external data warehousing/analytical databases.

Worklist Printout
Prints worklists at any stage in the worklist life cycle..

Worklist Deletion
Deletes unmeasured worklists.

Archive Environment
Accesses the worklist archive for data editing. Allows data to be resent to on-line clients.

Reporting
Provides sophisticated tools for presenting and analyzing QC and non-QC data. For non-QC data, tabulations of mean values and simple statistics are provided as well as incidence tables and tables of normalized urine chemistry results. QC data are presented graphically using sophisticated third party tools. Tabulations are made available to word processors and spreadsheet programs (e.g. MS Office).

Management Tools
This function is used to define the properties of the ClinPath system ranging from its physical deployment to the definition of reference information (e.g. parameters, profiles, footnotes, QC limits, etc.). Through this function, user access is defined (in the form of privilege and permissions) across an unlimited number of environments and an unlimited number of operating sites.
